PATS' OWNER SAYS NO THANKS TO BOSTON MAYOR LAND PROPOSAL

Patriots Owner Robert Kraft yesterday rejected a
proposed stadium site from Boston Mayor Thomas Menino that
Menino called, "the best possible site for a stadium in
Boston," according to Richard Chacon of the BOSTON GLOBE.
Menino's site, 81 acres in an industrial area in the South
Bay section of Boston, was presented by Boston Redevelopment
Authority Dir Marisa Lago as an alternative to Kraft's
desired South Boston site. Lago: "If the Patriots are
serious about moving to Boston, this would be the site worth
considering. We're saying this is the site with the most
potential in the city." Menino Press Secretary Jacque
Goddard: "South Boston is out of the equation as far as
we're concerned." In a statement, the Patriots said: "All
of our research shows the [South Boston] location is the
only one which will allow us to build the facility with
     private money" (BOSTON GLOBE, 12/18).
CHIP SHOT: In Boston, Nick Cafardo calls the current
condition of Foxboro Stadium "a good advertisement for a new
stadium." The NFL sent field consultant Chip Toma to
inspect the Foxboro field before "ordering" the Pats to
replace the entire field for its playoff game. The NFL will
pay "the bulk of the tab" (BOSTON GLOBE, 12/18).
