WITH LABOR DEAL DONE, BASEBALL TAKES AIM AT MARKETING PACTS

PepsiCo and Coca-Cola are "said to be vying" for a
national sponsorship package that would include both promo
rights and national media support, according to Brockinton &
Reynolds of INSIDE MEDIA (INSIDE MEDIA, 12/17).
MURPH TARGETS $500M: In an interview with BRANDWEEK's
Terry Lefton, MLB Enterprises CEO Greg Murphy said MLB will
reach its goal of $500M in corporate sponsorships "sometime
next year." Asked about Reebok as a corporate sponsor,
Murphy: "We're still talking to everybody, including Reebok
and Starter. I need to re-engage with Nike, because I still
want to put that puzzle back together. Both parties still
want a strategic relationship." Asked about MLB's
relationship with Lowe ad agency, who did their "What A
Game" spots: "We're sticking with Lowe. As with any ad
agency relationship, there were some bumps, but I think we
are more on track" (BRANDWEEK, 12/16 issue).
