FRANCHISE NOTES

          Despite the reservations of at least one council
     member, the Dallas City Council authorized a parade shortly
     after the Super Bowl in case the Cowboys win the NFL
     Championship.  Councilmember Max Wells: "We may have to have
     the Police Department help us with some of the floats
     because some of the players and dignitaries may be riding in
     paddy wagons" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS,12/12)....In San Jose,
     Viscount Air Service, Inc., the charter air carrier the
     Penguins used for a preseason game against the Sharks, has 
     settled a lawsuit filed by the City of San Jose which
     claimed the air carrier had violated airport curfew rules by
     flying the Penguins in after 11:00 pm PT.  The Penguins
     regular charter carrier is USAir (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS,
     12/11)....In Toronto, Don Cherry of "Hockey Night in
     Canada," is leading a group to run an Ontario Hockey League
     expansion franchise (TORONTO SUN, 12/12)....The new AFL
     franchise in Portland, OR, will be named The Forest Dragons. 
     The team moved from Memphis earlier this year.  The team
     logo features a fire-breathing dragon with primary colors of
     black, silver and teal, with red and gold accents (Dragons).
