MEDIA NOTES

          TNT's Magic-Lakers game last Friday drew a 1.7 national
     rating, a drop from the network's season average (ORLANDO
     SENTINEL, 12/11). NBA ratings on TNT and TBS telecasts are
     up a combined 10.5% (USA TODAY, 12/11)....Sidney Frank
     Importing has bought TV and radio time for its Jagermeister
     product.  The spots are airing on SportsChannel Pacific. 
     The company has also local deals in San Diego on ESPN (AD
     AGE, 12/11)....In Chicago, WMAQ-AM has hired Wayne Larrivee
     to a three-year deal to handle play-by-play for the Bears
     next season.  He currently handles Bears games for WGN and
     will move to the new carrier for next season (CHICAGO
     TRIBUNE, 12/11)....The Rainbow Commission for Fairness in
     Athletics, National Association of Black Journalists' sports
     task force and the New York Black Sportswriters Association
     will hold a forum tonight in New York City to examine race
     and racism in the sports media.  The NABJ notes that of
     1,600 daily newspapers in the U.S., only 10 have black
     sports columnists (NEWSDAY, 12/11).
