FILA'S MASS-MEDIA EFFORTS HOPE TO CLOSE-IN ON REEBOK

Fila USA will debut an ad during the Super Bowl XXXI
next month starring the 76ers Jerry Stackhouse, according to
Jeff Jensen of ADVERTISING AGE. The $1.5M ad buy, the first
time Fila will run a spot during the Super Bowl, "means more
for Fila than the launch of a new-product campaign." Fila
execs see the effort as a plan to "close the gap" between
them and No. 2 Reebok Int'l. The ad will air in the Super
Bowl's third quarter and will promote the "Stack 2." The
commercial will be "digitally drained" of color after the
shoot, making everything in B&W but the sneakers. The ad
will air through March, and print ads will support the
sneakers' launch (AD AGE, 12/9 issue).
