LEAGUE NOTES

NASCAR's debut in Japan "turned out to be a relatively
good show," according to Tom Higgins in the CHARLOTTE
OBSERVER. NASCAR has a contract with Suzuka Circuitland,
which is about 250 miles from Tokyo, to stage exhibition
events through '98. Rusty Wallace, the winner of the event:
"The Japanese fans were very happy to have all the drivers
in their country to race ... They gave us a lot of respect
and were very nice to all of us" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER,
11/26)....The CFL's Board of Governors met over the weekend
to discuss a "recovery plan" for the league. Each governor
was given one specific area to study, while consulting with
colleagues and other leagues. The restructuring plan
includes cutting team operating budgets by C$500,000. The
CFL is also looking at ticket pricing and the timing of its
games (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 11/26).
