MEDIA NOTES

Classic Sports Network will expand to the Greater
Boston area starting Wednesday, when 200,000 cable
subscribers in 27 Continental Cable systems will get a free
trial for five days, afterwhich it will cost $2.95 per month
to receive Classic Sports on a tier with three other new
channels History, Sci-fi and fX (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/24). ...In
Atlanta, Prentis Rogers notes the microphone sewn into the
shorts of boxer Roy Jones Jr. in his victory over Mike
McCallum on Friday "proved to be much ado about nothing."
The transmitter attached to the back of Jones' shorts was
knocked loose by the end of the third round (ATLANTA
CONSTITUTION, 11/25)....On March 8, the publisher of
GolfWeek, Ken Hanson, will launch Golf & Travel, a quarterly
magazine providing insights about worldwide golf
destinations (GolfWeek)....NHL Productions will produce a
Mark Messier videotape biography to be ready this spring. It
is the first such production for NHLP (BOSTON GLOBE,
11/24)....In NY, Phil Mushnick profiles retiring Boston
Globe columnist Jack Craig. Mushnick: "Craig not only
spawned a sub-culture of newspaper writers, he had to swim
upstream all by himself for a dozen years. So odd seemed
his beat - televised sports - that no other newspaper
employed such a columnist until 1980 when Newsday's Stan
Isaacs got the call" (NY POST, 11/24).
