"PUCK" DROPS ON WALL STREET IN FIRST DAY OF TRADING

The NHL Panthers officially become a publicly traded company
as stock in the club began selling on the NASDAQ market yesterday
under the symbol "PUCK," according to Cindy Krischer Goodman of
the MIAMI HERALD. Panthers stock began the day at $11.50 and
closed down 37.5 cents at $11.12 1/2 after 758,000 shares changed
hands. Goodman notes PUCK's performance was in "sharp contrast"
to the "meteoric rise" in price that other Wayne Huizenga
companies have experienced on their opening days. Huizenga owns
the Panthers and is looking to offer 49% of the team in the IPO.
Goodman adds, however, that many analysts anticipated the price
might fall because the stock is "more an emotional buy than a
serious investment." IPO value monitor analyst Ryan Jacob: "I'm
not surprised, because the team is difficult to value because
it's not profitable now and won't be until 1999, and even then
there's a question whether it will be profitable" (MIAMI HERALD,
11/14).
