Video game-maker Sega has approached the English Football
League Referees' Association about the possibility of acting as
title sponsor of the red and yellow cards issued to offending
players. A Sega spokesperson: "We hope that each time a referee
has to show a player a card, the Sega branding will remind [the
referee] that, after all, it's only a game, thereby reducing the
psychological tension that referees face" (SI, 11/4
issue)....Ore-Ida Baked Potatoes brand has signed on as a year-
long sponsor of the Carlsbad, CA-based Jazzercise fitness program
(Jazzercise). ...Calgary-based Typhoon Sportswear has added Nike
Int'l to its roster of clients for its custom made promotional
and corporate attire. Typhoon said it landed the Nike account
for team outerwear and golf attire. Initial orders are expected
to be promotional wear for IHL teams (CALGARY HERALD,
10/31)....Rance Crain writes in the "Viewpoint" section of AD AGE
that PepsiCo and Quaker Oats should consider a merger. Crain:
"Gatorade could fix Pepsi's biggest problem -- its weakness
overseas. Snapple could give Pepsi another line of drinks in the
U.S. to grab shelf space away from Coke" (ADVERTISING AGE, 10/28
issue)....Nike and Lady Foot Locker have joined for the second
straight year to offer girls, ages 10-17, the largest basketball
skills competition in the nation as the Nike/Lady Foot Locker 3
