FINANCIAL AID -- NBA STYLE: LEAGUE APPROVES ASSISTANCE PLAN

     The NBA Board of Governors approved a plan to provide "up
to" $3M-a-year in "financial assistance" to low-revenue teams,
according to the Toronto GLOBE & MAIL.  Between five and eight
clubs are expected to qualify for the payments, which will come
from a "special account the league has been accumulating for four
years."  The fund, which reportedly has grown to "about" $50
million, was generated from money paid into a central fund by
teams that broadcast their games beyond a 75-mile radius (Toronto
GLOBE & MAIL, 10/31).
