Facilities Venues

STADIUM NOTES

In his column, "Stadium Rewards Outweigh Risks," HOUSTON
CHRONICLE columnists calls for support of the sports facilities
referendum Tuesday. Fowler: "Based on risk /reward analysis, the
decision isn't difficult" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 10/31). At the NFL
meetings in New Orleans, John McClain of CHRONICLE concludes "if
Houston hopes to get an NFL franchise to replace the Oilers after
they move to Tennessee, voters must approve Proposition One."
Chiefs Owner Lamar Hunt: "I have no doubt that if Houston had a
top football facility that it would be well-received (by the
owners)." 49ers President Carmen Policy: "The underlying reason
the Oilers are leaving is the inadequacy of the facility. ... If
you overcome that problem, you'd be taking giant steps toward
preparing the community for the re-entry of an NFL franchise."
(HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 10/31)....In Miami, HERALD sports editor
Edwin Pope on Proposition 284, where a "no" vote favors funding
for a new Heat downtown arena: "If we are interested in improving
the quality of our lives, our children's lives and their
children's, we should vote No. ... The language does get goofy.
'No' means you support a bayfront arena and port expansion.
'Yes' means kill all the plans" (MIAMI HERALD, 10/31)....A
parquet floor will be installed at the Target Center for this
season (Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE, 10/31).
