WORLD SERIES FINAL NUMBER: 17.4/29 OVER SIX GAMES

     Fox reports Game Six of the World Series earned a 19.1/34
rating.  The Series average was a 17.4/29 (Fox).
     REAX: Fox's World Series ratings helped the network win the
weekly ratings for last week's prime time programming for the
first time in the network's history.  Fox had a 15.8, compared to
NBC's second place 9.6 (USA TODAY, 10/30)....NBC Sports President
Dick Ebersol, on NBC's reaction to MLB allegedly "reneging" on a
deal to let it televise Game 4 of the Yankees-Rangers Divisional
Series: "We're exploring every possibility so in the future we're
not forced to put on a lesser game" (Richard Sandomir, N.Y.
TIMES, 10/30)....Fox Sports' Vince Wladika, on the '96 World
Series being one of the lowest-rated ever: "We don't want to hear
about comparisons.  As far as we're concerned, baseball began the
day we made the deal" (USA TODAY, 10/30)....In Canada, the World
Series on CTV averaged 1.7 million viewers per game, an increase
from '95's 1.6 million average.  Game 5 had 2.1 million viewers
(Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 10/30).
     FOX MOVES: News Corp. Chair Rupert Murdoch named Peter
Chernin to the newly created post of President & COO of News
Corp., and appointed Fox TV Group Chair Chase Carey Co-COO for
News Corp.  Chernin will oversee the Fox TV network, fX network
and Fox Sports (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 10/30).
