MLB TO BOOST FOX: IT WINS TV WEEK AND REPORTS PROFIT

Game Six of the World Series Saturday drew a 22.2/37
preliminary overnight rating. Final numbers will be made
available today. Fox CEO Chase Carey: "Baseball will be
profitable for us this year" (USA TODAY, 10/28).
REAX: In Houston, Mike McDaniel gives Fox an A for its
coverage. Fox has "no reason to hang its head [as] the network
made the most of what they had" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 10/28). In
DC, Leonard Shapiro credits Fox's coverage, saying it has "been
coming in very loud and clear." He gives kudos to the network's
"new cameras," while calling Fox's pitch-by-pitch replays
"fascinating" (WASHINGTON POST, 10/26). In New York, Richard
Sandomir notes the "main thing" Fox missed Saturday was the
Yankees victory lap after the game. It "also ignored the brewing
controversy over whether a labor deal has been reached" (N.Y.
TIMES, 10/28). THE MILLENNIUM: Fox's debut of "Millennium,"
much touted during its World Series coverage, had a 14.4/23
overnight rating Friday -- the highest rated drama series debut
so far this season on any network. It was Fox's best-ever drama-
series premiere (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 10/28).
BYE BUCK: Fox's Joe Buck, during the World Series post-game
wrap-up: "It's been a lot of fun and we hope we've made our
little dent on baseball here in 1996, our first year" (Fox,
10/26). NBC's Bob Costas, on the 27-year old Buck: "In terms of
play-by-play craftmanship, he's better than I was at that age"
(ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 10/27).
