IS TIGER A MODEL TOO? NIKE TOUR PICKS UP NEW LOGO

The Nike Golf Tour will adopt a new logo for the '97 season,
according to GOLFWEEK. Nike "dropped" the company name from its
corporate logo a year ago "in favor of a simple swoosh," and now
the new Nike Tour logo reflects that change. It features a
silhouette of a golfer's swing, and Nike endorser Tiger Woods was
"reportedly" used as the model for the new logo. But PGA Tour
officials say any resemblance to Woods is "coincidental"
(GOLFWEEK, 10/26 issue). A report in GOLF WORLD notes Nike
claims the logo is a composite of several golfers (GOLF WORLD,
10/25 issue).
MORE SWOOSH NEWS: NBC's "Dateline" last night featured a
segment on Nike and working conditions in overseas shoe and
soccer ball factories. As for allegations regarding the
conditions in soccer ball factories, a Nike spokesperson admitted
the company did not do its "due diligence" when establishing
production operations ("Dateline," NBC, 10/27). ....Nike and Fila
USA have purchased the $8M NBA media package on TNT and TBS
recently "surrendered" by Reebok (AD AGE ONLINE, 10/28)....Nike
ran a full-page ad in Sunday's N.Y. TIMES announcing the opening
of a Niketown at 57th Street and Fifth Ave in NYC November 1
(N.Y. TIMES, 10/27).
