HAMILTON EXPECTED TO APPLY FOR NHL CLUB

     In Ontario, the City of Hamilton is expected to approve the
city's bid to secure an NHL expansion franchise, according to Ken
Peters of the HAMILTON SPECTATOR.  An unnamed source said the
$100,000 U.S. expansion application will be provided by the
Hamilton Spectator newspaper and that city delegation members are
expected to list the City of Hamilton as the franchise owner
until private investors can be found for a bid presentation to
the NHL November 14.  November 1 is the deadline for expansion
applications.  Hamilton Mayor Bob Morrow said he is talking to
"several potential ownership groups" about the effort (HAMILTON
SPECTATOR, 10/28).
