BRANDWEEK NEWS & NOTES: Reebok has "walked away" from its
initial $20M investment in the World League of American Football,
the firm's "ticket" to an NFL Pro Line license. ...The computer
category at NFL Properties has "cooled down." Both IBM and
Microsoft "want in," but are "haggling over terms." Gateway
2000, DEC and Hewlett-Packard are all also still interested.
Zenith Data Systems is the incumbent. The consumer electronics
category is "heating up," with incumbent Sony's deal "up in
March"....Chiefs RB Marcus Allen has signed with Scandia, the
sports marketing agency formed by former Apex One head Michael
Lewis and ex-NFL Properties and ISI execs Nick DeBellis and Mike
Ornstein (BRANDWEEK, 10/21 issue)....Fila will report third-
quarter results November 7, and Claire Young, assistant portfolio
manager at Janus Capital Corp., a holder of Fila shares, expects
earnings to be "good," and doesn't expect to see future orders
slow in the quarter (BARRON'S ONLINE, 10/24)....A Grant Hill
candy bar, called the Grant Hill Bar, is "soon to be gracing
stores" (DETROIT FREE PRESS 10/25). ...When asked about her
future, retired tennis star Gabriela Sabatini said she would
continue promoting products named after her, "essentially a line
of perfume, a doll and a motivational book for children"
(NEWSDAY, 10/25).
