BEAVIS: "TIGER RULES." BUTTHEAD: "YEAH, TIGER RULES."

Coming off his second tour win and heading into The Tour
Championship, beginning today in Tulsa, OK, TIGER WOODS is
featured in numerous publications around the country. Woods is
featured on the cover of the current SPORTS ILLUSTRATED. In SI,
Rick Reilly writes, "To understand what golf is now, don't watch
Tiger Woods. Watch who watches Tiger Woods. Young black women
in tight jeans and heels. Tour caddies, back out on the course
after hauling a bag 18 holes. White arbitrageurs with cell
phones. Giant groups of fourth-graders, mimicking their first
golf swings. ..." (SI, 10/23 issue). In Boston, Joe Concannon
says, "Tiger's presence is mystical and intriguing beyond his
ethnic heritage. He has attracted unprecedented galleries and
media attention to the normally ignored autumn segment of the PGA
Tour all the while captivating the young and a minority following
unknown to golf" (BOSTON GLOBE, 10/24). In a USA TODAY cover
story, Steve Hershey notes "there was an undercurrent of
resentment" when Woods first turned pro, but now, "after
finishing third-first-third-first in his last four starts, the
players realize he deserves the accolades" (USA TODAY, 10/24).
In Philadelphia, Bill Lyon: "Woods, 20, will transform sport.
Not just golf, but all sports" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 10/24).
In New York, Larry Dorman writes, "Tiger rules. Get used to it"
(N.Y. TIMES, 10/24). ABC's Armen Keteyian profiled Woods on
"Good Morning America." DDB Needham Advertising's Page Thompson:
"Tiger Woods is one of those athletes that come around once in a
decade. He's going to reinvent golf" (ABC, 10/24).
NO APOLOGIES: Woods, on his first Nike ad: "The ad probably
wasn't reflective of my personality, but I'm glad it was said.
Golf has been such an elitist sport and -- I hate to say it --
a white-dominated sport for so long that people have been so
afraid of bringing this issue up" (Mick Elliott, TAMPA TRIBUNE,
10/24).
