IN PORTLAND, WHO NEEDS TWO?

     Now that the Trail Blazers' 800-plus-game consecutive home
sellout streak has ended, the club has begun advertising in an
effort to increase attendance at the Rose Garden, according to
Jeff Manning of the Portland OREGONIAN.  The sellout streak, the
longest in professional sports according to club officials, came
to an end early last season when the Blazers moved from the
12,000-seat Memorial Coliseum to the 21,401-seat Rose Garden.
The Blazers still ranked fourth in the NBA in home attendance
last year, averaging more than 20,000 per game, but hope to
return to the days when Blazer sellouts were expected.  Blazers
Senior VP/Marketing Operations Harry Hutt: "I hear from people
who ask me, 'Why are you doing all this? You must be in trouble.'
That's a crock.  Advertising is a normal part of this business.
Because of the size of the building you can't just sit on your
haunches" (Portland OREGONIAN, 10/17).
