T'WOLVES ROLLING THE DICE WITH NEW SPONSORSHIP DEAL?

The Timberwolves have signed a sponsorship deal with
Treasure Island Casino which "raises some interesting questions
about the NBA and gaming establishments," according to Steve
Aschburner of the Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE, T'Wolves
VP/Marketing & Sales Chris Wright said while the league
"continues to study" the issue, such arrangements are limited to
one-year deals and the casinos must not have sports books
(Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE, 10/16). Wright told THE DAILY this
morning the casino is located on an Indian reservation in Red
Wing, MN and that the deal was made possible because of the NBA's
"easing" regulation of its "casino category." The deal includes
arena signage, radio and TV ads, hospitality, and future arena
promotions. Wright confirmed the deal is for one-year, but would
not reveal financial terms, saying only it is a "substantial
relationship" (THE DAILY).
