MLB FRANCHISE NEWS & NOTES: LEYLAND A BOOST TO MARLINS?

The MLB Giants are "on pace" to sell 10,000 of the 13,700
charter seats at their proposed Pac Bell ballpark by the end of
the year, according to Adam Fuerstein in the S.F. BUSINESS TIMES.
The team will begin assigning charter seats next month to current
season ticket holders, at prices "ranging from" $1,500-$7,500.
Of the 42,000 seats in the new facility, "fewer than one-third"
will be sold in the charter seat program, with all money going
towards construction of the $225M stadium. Giants execs
indicated that "nearly half" of the 63 luxury suites have been
reserved and they "expect" about 8,500 of the team's current
12,000 season ticket holders to purchase "at least" one charter
seat (S.F. BUSINESS TIMES, 10/14).
BRAVOS: Before moving into the reconfigured Olympic Stadium
next year, the Braves will hire an outside ad agency to promote a
"consistent theme as they market" the new features, including
season tickets, 60 luxury suites which range from $125-200,000
per year, stadium signage, parking and other revenue producers,
according to Henry Unger in the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. Braves
Senior VP/Administration Bob Wolfe: "This is the first time we
have had to hire an ad agency of record. In the past, we've done
it in-house, and in-conjunction with Turner Broadcasting's in-
house creative group" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 10/16). As of
Tuesday, "more than" 2,500 tickets remained for tonight's Game
Six of the NLCS (Guy Cutwright, ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 10/16).
ST. JIM? The hiring of new manager Jim Leyland has further
"energized" the Marlins' sales and marketing offices, as they
prepare an "aggressive" season-ticket package for next season,
according to Gregg Doyel in the MIAMI HERALD. The package will
feature reduced prices in "almost" 50% of the ballpark and
consist of a season ticket for children 12 and under sitting
behind the plate in the upper level for $81, $1 per game (MIAMI
HERALD, 10/16).
