FOX SPORTS FILES SUIT AGAINST THREE TEAMS OVER TV DEAL

Fox Sports Network has filed suit in Superior Court in
Washington against the Bullets, Capitals, and Orioles, claiming
breach of contract and seeking $50M in damages, according to
Leonard Shapiro of the WASHINGTON POST. Fox Sports Net was
recently "thwarted in its bid" to acquire cable TV rights to the
three teams. Fox claims they offered the highest bid to the
teams, who were accepting bids because they were "unhappy with
HTS." Despite the high Fox bid, HTS said it exercised its
contractual right to match any offer and the Orioles informed Fox
that HTS also had matched the Fox bid. Fox Sports Net COO Jim
Martin: "I'm feeling a bit aggrieved." Fox hoped to launch their
regional cable network with the three teams and call it Fox
Sports Atlantic, but plans have "been put on hold" (WASHINGTON
POST, 10/12).
