FRANCHISE NOTES

Packers President Bob Harlan, on the team's public
ownership: "We haven't sold stock since 1950. We sold it for $25
a share and if someone wanted to sell that stock back to us
today, we'd send 'em a check for $25. No dividends, no interest,
no benefits, no season tickets" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 10/14)....Will
McDonough of the BOSTON GLOBE reports the Patriots will be
reacquiring a number of season tickets from fans after a "sting
operation" revealed that some ticket holders were scalping their
seats for $250-300, five to six times face value (BOSTON GLOBE,
10/12)......A's GM Sandy Alderson has a new contract that will
give him the title of President & GM and keep him with the club
through at least '99. The contract extends through 2000, but the
A's will have a buyout option for that year (S.F. CHRONICLE,
10/11).
