STADIUM NOTES

In Washington, construction on the Redskins new stadium is
moving "at a fast pace," but negotiations over the awarding of
state money to build a road network remain "bogged down, raising
questions about whether the stadium can open on schedule next
season." The Redskins dispute Maryland officials, who claim
improvements around the stadium will "likely" cost less than the
$70.5M the state will pay in a grant agreement. The team said it
doesn't want to be paid less than the $70.5M agreed upon
(WASHINGTON POST, 10/15). ...3Com Corporate Marketing Manager
Larry Loper on the $1M-plus 3Com has paid for naming rights at
Candlestick Park: "The exposure certainly has been in the tens of
millions of dollars in terms of the trade off of what it would
have cost using paid media" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 10/14)....After a
lawsuit filed by the U.S. Justice Department against Minneapolis,
MN-based Ellerbe Becket for having designed six sports arenas
that lack adequate lines of sight for fans in wheelchairs, the
architectural firm has called for an industry-wide forum to
address concerns about accessibility for the disabled at sports
stadiums (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 10/12).
