     HBO has given the go-ahead for a second 13-show season of
Arli$$ (THE DAILY)....GE reported an 11% rise in third quarter
earnings on strong revenue from NBC broadcast of the Summer Games
(ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 10/11)....NBC Sports will televise the
1996 EMC Golf Skills Challenge from the Pointe Hilton Resort at
Tapatio Cliffs in Phoenix November 9-10.  Among those scheduled
to participate are Arnold Palmer, John Daly, and defending champ
Brad Faxon (EMC Golf Skills Challenge).... Rob Longley notes in
the TORONTO SUN that former Islander Brett Lindros wants to
become a broadcaster and the NHLPA is considering him for its "Be
a Player" show (TORONTO SUN, 10/11)....In Philadelphia, Bill
Fleischman writes that about one-third of the way through the NFL
season, TV ratings are down on three of four league carriers, are
off 10% on TNT, 7% on Fox and 3% on NBC.  ABC's "Monday Night
Football" is up 4%.  Fox Sports' Vince Wladika said both Fox and
NBC are questioning the ratings provided by Nielsen Media
Research: "We met with Nielsen and weren't given satisfactory
answers.  There's a problem with regionalization."  Nielsen
VP/Communications Jack Loftus: "I'm skeptical of skeptics"
(PHILA. DAILY NEWS, 10/11).
