TRADE BAIT: IMPORT/EXPORT INFORMATION FROM SGMA

     According to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association's
(SGMA) analysis of data from the U.S. Commerce Department, the
dollar value of sporting goods exports increased 6.4% for the
first six months of the year compared with a 22.5% growth rate
for the year ago period (SGMA):

     The SGMA also reported the growth rate for sporting goods
     imports for the first half of '96 compared to '95 declined
     from +11.9% ('94-95) to +1.9% ('95-96):
