     Former President GEORGE BUSH attended the NFL Panthers'
practice Wednesday and addressed the team.  Panthers Coach DOM
CAPERS admitted he didn't know Bush's son, Jeb, is a partner with
the Jaguars, the Panthers opponent this week.  Capers: "I hope he
didn't have a notepad out there.  I don't think he did.  He left
with a Panthers hat on" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 9/26)....Former
Kings Owner BRUCE MCNALL has been romantically linked to HEIDI
FLEISS (TORONTO STAR, 9/26). ...Olympic gold medalists SHANNON
MILLER and CARL LEWIS will host the '97 Rose Parade (L.A. TIMES,
9/26)....Country music star TRAVIS TRITT has joined the ownership
group of the expansion Arena Football League Nashville Kats
(Nashville Kats)....Yankees Associate General Counsel JOHN
AGLIANO, along with attorneys GEOFFREY HODGES and DONALD
WHITTEMORE, plan to open their own Tampa firm by October 7 (TAMPA
BAY BUSINESS JOURNAL, 9/23 issue)....TED TURNER bought the
578,000-acre Vermejo Park Ranch and now owns 1,796 square miles
of New Mexico or nearly 1.5% of the state (NEWSDAY,
9/26)...CNBC's Sue Herera interviewed former SI-writer SALLY
JENKINS about her new book, "Men Will be Boys," which takes a
"somewhat humorous look about football and what it means to the
sexes."  Jenkins said she likes to compare the military, Wall
Street, and football as the "three last male bastions that women
are trying to become included in" ("SportsView," CNBC,
9/25)....NASCAR driver and defending Winston Cup Champion JEFF
GORDON appeared on "Late Show" with David Letterman last night.
Gordon has a TV special entitled "Jeff Gordon: Wide Open," airing
on the Nashville Network, October 22.  Gordon, talking about what
he enjoyed about his job: "To be able to go out there and, Dave
you know, [drive] 190 miles per hour, you've been 190 a few
times. You know what it's like."  Letterman: "Let me tell you
something, 190 miles in reverse."  Gordon: "I'll have to try that
one" ("Late Show," CBS, 9/25).
