The A's are "seriously considering" promoting Exec VP/GM
Sandy Alderson to President and naming current Assist. GM Billy
Beane to the GM post, according to Steve Kettmann of the S.F.
CHRONICLE. Kettmann: "Given the turmoil that has consumed
business operations this season, including several changes of
leadership, many in the organization think that would be a great
idea." Co-Owner Steve Schott -- who also holds the title of
President & Managing Partner, but has found that his "primary
business," Citation Homes, is keeping him "very busy" -- said he
will meet with partner Ken Hofmann next week to determine whether
to put Alderson in charge of the A's business operations.
Schott: "It's a scenario that could work" (S.F. CHRONICLE,
9/25).
CALL FOR DOLICH: Glenn Dickey of the S.F. CHRONICLE writes
the "first step to straighten out the Oakland Football Marketing
Association" is to hire former A's Exec VP/Business and former
Warriors President Andy Dolich as its new director. Dickey cites
Dolich's "extensive marketing background," noting he has "no side
agenda that would prevent him from making the right decisions."
Dickey: "Hiring Dolich and cleaning house would send a positive
message to fans that their complaints are finally being heard and
addressed" (SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, 9/25).
