Facilities Venues

WILL MITSUBISHI COME TO THE RESCUE OF MILLER PARK?

In a proposal that "could be a solution" for how to build
the Brewers planned Miller Park for no more than $250M, the
Mitsubishi Corp. has offered to provide the facility with a large
amount of electronic equipment, according to Amy Rinard of the
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. Such machinery, which would be
leased to the stadium board, could include the JumboTron TV
screen and the retractable roof mechanism. Mitsubishi's offer,
expected to cut $15-30M off stadium construction costs, will be
considered by the stadium board at its next meeting October 4.
At that meeting, the board is also expected to take up a request
from the Brewers that the stadium district enter an agreement
under which the district would pay a penalty of $10M to the club
if Miller Park is not completed by March 1, 2000 (MILWAUKEE
JOURNAL SENTINEL, 9/23).
