AN HBO ORIGINAL? TURNER'S ROLE IN NEW TIME WARNER ANNOUNCED

When Time Warner's acquisition of Turner Broadcasting System
is completed next month, Ted Turner will be given the title Vice
Chair and will oversee HBO, CNN, TNT, Cinemax and the Cartoon
Network, according to Mark Landler of the N.Y. TIMES. Under a
new management structure announced yesterday, three senior execs
will report to Turner: HBO Chair Jeffrey Bewkes, CNN President
W. Thomas Johnson and Turner Exec VP Terence McGuirk. Landler
adds that Time Warner was "forced to accelerate" the announcement
after Scott Sassa, who ran Turner's entertainment division, said
he would leave the company after the merger closed (N.Y. TIMES,
9/18). McGuirk will be given the title Chair, President & CEO of
TBS Inc. He will continue to manage TBS ads and distribution
sales, the Braves, the Hawks, Turner Sports TV production,
corporate marketing, pr, and Turner's administrative functions
and will now oversee all Turner's entertainment networks
(HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 9/18).
