L.A. STORY: IS COLISEUM PLAN GAINING MOMENTUM?

Officials at Inglewood's Hollywood Park said Friday that
they will suspend their own quest for an NFL team and support the
City of L.A.'s Coliseum proposal, according to Merl & Belgum of
the L.A. TIMES. Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas, who has
spearheaded support for the Coliseum, said, "A groundswell of
support is growing daily." The remodeled Coliseum would be a
"highly flexible oval-shaped structure that could expand and
contract for smaller sporting events and theatrical productions,"
according to a rendering shown to the L.A. TIMES by Ridley-
Thomas. The facility would hold about 67,000 fans for football
games, soccer and track-and-field competitions, but could be
expanded to 85,000 seats for events like the Super Bowl. The
stadium would hold 140 luxury suites and 8,000 club seats and
would cost about $185M. City officials are working with economic
consultants and architects at HOK Sports and will make a
presentation at the NFL meetings in October (L.A. TIMES, 9/14).
