A CASE OF FAN LOYALTY GONE AWRY? NEBRASKA HITS THE OVAL

Charlotte-based Empire Management has put a deal together
between the Univ. of Nebraska and the Winston Cup Melling Racing
team by which the school will advertise on the team's race car,
according to columnist Ron Green in the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER. A
Univ. of Nebraska sports information spokesperson said the school
will not pay for the sponsorship but the school will receive
money from the race team's licensed merchandise sales. That
money will go toward academic and athletic scholarships. Empire
Management's Gordon Grigg said a foundation named in honor of ex-
Nebraska star Trev Alberts will "put up the initial money to
start the program." After start-up, Grigg said the school will
provide sponsorship money to be raised through an Empire-designed
program (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 9/12).
