FRANCHISE NOTES

Noting both the poor sales of Cardinals merchandise in the
Phoenix area and that Sun Devil Stadium was "awash in aqua"
Sunday for the team's home opener against the Dolphins, columnist
David Casstevens recommends Cardinals Owner Bill Bidwill
implement an "incentive plan" to stimulate more fan support.
Casstevens: "Anyone who attends a game wearing Cardinals red
would receive a $3 rebate on his or her game ticket or a gift
certificate to be applied to the purchase of a Cardinals T-shirt
or cap. If the team can't move the ball, maybe management at
least could move some merchandise" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 9/10).
....Bucs Dir of Sales & Advertising Paul Sickmon tells the TAMPA
BAY BUSINESS JOURNAL the team has "sold out in all mediums" for
the sixth year in a row. George Ferris, VP/Special Events &
Promotions at Clearwater, FL-based FKQ Advertising: "The Bucs
are very good when it comes to marketing, and there is always
that NFL shield. Who the hell cares if they win?" (TAMPA BAY
BUSINESS JOURNAL, 9/9 issue)....A's Owner Steve Schott, on
speculation the team will move from Oakland: "People shouldn't be
surprised if the A's are still here in 10 years. That's our
goal" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 9/10).
