PANTHERS EYE DISABILITY ACCESS; HEAT ARENA OPPONENTS RALLY

About 35 representatives of Broward's disabled community met
with consultant Kevin McGuire about the access plan for the
Panthers new arena, according to Marilyn Marks of the MIAMI
HERALD. McGuire, who is confined to a wheelchair, was hired by
the arena's developer, Huizenga Holdings, to "oversee the arena's
compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act." McGuire:
"This arena will have more access than any arena in the country."
Disability advocate John Garon applauded Panthers Owner Wayne
Huizenga "for involving disabled residents" early in the process.
The plans drew criticism from Dominic Marinelli of the Eastern
Paralyzed Veterans Association who saw insufficient access to
ensure all wheelchair-bound patrons can see full action (MIAMI
HERALD, 8/29).
RALLY IN MIAMI Opponents trying to halt construction of a
new Heat arena in Miami will hold a downtown rally this weekend
to gather enough signatures to place the issue before voters in
November (MIAMI HERALD, 8/29).
