MARLINS TO REMAIN AT PRO PLAYER PARK FOR LONGTERM?

Pro Player's 10-year, $20M deal to rename Joe Robbie Stadium
has "lessened" the chance of Dolphins and Marlins Owner Wayne
Huizenga building a baseball-only facility in the near future,
according to Barry Jackson of the MIAMI HERALD. Fruit of the
Loom Sports & Licensing Division President Doug Kelly said it was
"indicated" during contract negotiations that both clubs "will
remain at the stadium for the duration" of Pro Player's deal.
Kelly added there is nothing in the contract which could alter
the $20M fee --including either an NFL or MLB work stoppage. If
such a standstill were to occur, Pro Player's contract would be
extended at the back of the deal (MIAMI HERALD, 8/29).
Meanwhile, Pro Player Park officials have said they are
considering ways to honor Dolphins founder Joe Robbie on the
facility's grounds. A statue of the late owner is one
possibility (Barry Jackson, MIAMI HERALD, 8/28).
