SPORTING A MAJOR ATTITUDE: AND 1 PROFILED IN PHILADELPHIA

Revenues this year for AND 1, the PA-based basketball
apparel and shoe company, are expected to "nearly triple" last
year's $6M, and the company '97 projects sales in the $32M range,
according to Tom Walsh in the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. AND1,
started in '93 by MBA students and former congressional staffers,
markets t-shirts, shorts and hats, with a new line of Stephon
Marbury shoes to hit in November. AND 1 Founder & President Seth
Berger said they aim to be the No.1 "basketball company in the
world," but added, "We want to stay true to the game, to
understand that we are a basketball company, not a sneaker
company, not a marketing company." AND 1 employs 18 people full-
time, including Berger and five other partners. AND 1 has no
plans to expand to other sports (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 8/26).
