     Plank Road Brewery will sponsor the "Red Dog Summer
Basketball League," a seven-week outdoor basketball contest
designed to establish the top teams in New York City (Red
Dog)....Gary Miller of Sportsfund, the new sports mutual fund,
appeared on CNBC.  Miller, on their first year goal: "Our first
year goal is $50-75 million in assets" ("Market Wrap," CNBC,
8/19). Miller says the fund will include golf companies, as they
are looking at Callaway, American Brands and a few others
(GOLFWEEK, 8/17 issue)....Modell Sporting Goods opens five stores
in former Herman's locations in the Washington, DC-area this week
(WASHINGTON TIMES, 8/20). ....Paul Molitor and the Twins have
announced that the baseballs on which Molitor collects hits Nos.
2,961 - 2,990 will be auctioned.  Fans can bid by calling 1-800-
33-TWINS.  Proceeds go to Molitor-selected charities the Make-A-
Wish Foundation and Camp Heartland (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE,
8/17). ..CORRECTION: Yesterday we incorrectly referred to Carmen
Feliciano of CSMG, as a he.  Carmen is a female.
