SPORTS MEDIA - SPORTS MEDIA - ESPN REMEMBERS TOM MEES IN WEEKEND TRIBUTE

ESPN paid tribute to the late Tom Mees during Sunday's
"SportsWeekly." Mees died last week in a drowning accident. The
tribute, hosted by Bob Ley and Chris Berman, featured clips of
Mees' work and remeberances from fellow ESPN colleagues. Keith
Olbermann on Mees being with ESPN from its inception: "He was
ESPN when ESPN wasn't cool." Dan Patrick: "He never wanted to
be bigger than the game, never wanted to be bigger than the
story. He just said 'It's only sports. Do it that way.'" Bob
Ley: "We're here to celebrate to us what was obviously a special
guy." Berman: "Next time you think of ESPN and every time you
think of ESPN, think of Tommy. We wouldn't be here without him."
("Sports Weekly," ESPN, 8/18). On "The Sports Reporters," Mike
Lupica noted Mees' "professionalism and constant class honored
not just ESPN but his profession. ... [he] didn't think his job
description was television star. ... I'll miss his work" ("Sports
Reporters," ESPN, 8/18).
