LEAGUE NOTES

In Boston, Will McDonough looks toward the NFL's next TV
package. Raiders Owner Al Davis: "We will double our money, and
you can quote me on that." McDonough notes if NFL TV rights do
double, the salary cap could "jump" into the $60M range, "which
likely would have the agents of every star player trying to
renegotiate" (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/18).... NFL Commissioner Paul
Tagliabue (introduced by NBC's Charlie Jones as "Richard") was
interviewed during the Eagles-Pats game. On full-time officials,
Tagliabue: "There's really not much sentiment for that. ... they
basically are full-time during the season and more and more in
the preseason" ("NFL on NBC," 8/18)....ESPN's John Feinstein on
Pat Riley's response to losing Juwan Howard: "He's called David
Stern out. He's called him a liar. David Stern cannot sit on a
'no comment' as a response to that. He's got to come back and
say, 'No, I'm not a liar, here's what happened, here's what he
did wrong and you're fined for it and, you're suspended'"
("Sports Reporters," 8/18).
