NAMES IN THE NEWS

     NORMAN TWAIN, who produced "Lean on Me," will co-produce a
new Warner Bros. film about DWIGHT GOODEN. At a news conference
in New York's All-Star cafe, Twain commented, "I don't think it's
a drugs movie. It's more about life and people's problems. It's a
story of redemption between a man, his family and his friends"
(NEWSDAY, 8/16)....Tennis star VENUS WILLIAMS'S father, RICHARD
WILLIAMS, is profiled in today's NEW YORK TIMES. In a piece
entitled, "Does Venus's Father Know Best," he states: "I want my
daughter out of tennis by 23, 24 years old...actually, I prefer
retirement at 19, but she says, no, daddy, 23, 24" (N.Y. TIMES,
8/16)...."ET" was on the scene of "Beverly Hills 90210" as KERRI
STRUG made her acting  debut.  The episode airs Sept. 18 on Fox
("Entertainment Tonight," 8/15)....MICHAEL JOHNSON appeared on
the "Tonight Show."  After being asked by Jay Leno if showbiz was
in his future, Johnson said, "I don't know if they're ready for
me yet"  ("Tonight Show," NBC, 8/15).
