NO BROKEN ARROW IN ANAHEIM AS DISNEY EXTENDS POND DEAL

Disney Sports Enterprises Inc. and The Perrier Group of
America agreed to extend Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water's title
sponsorship of the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim. Arrowhead, a
division of The Perrier Group, will also continue to sponsor the
Mighty Ducks (Disney Sports Enterprises). The ORANGE COUNTY
REGISTER's Barbara Kingsley reports the deal is for ten years at
approximately $1.5 to 1.7M a year. The original deal, signed in
September '93 for $1-1.5M a year, had a three-year out clause
that allowed either side to renegotiate. Disney Sports
Enterprises President Tony Tavares said he wanted a better
"market rate" for naming rights to The Pond and was getting
"overtures" from other companies. Tavares previously remarked he
did not want to continue giving away thousands of Disneyland
tickets as part of the deal (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 8/14).
DISNEYDROME: Disney is considering purchasing the $1M
Olympic cycling velodrome at Stone Mountain Park in GA and adding
it to its $100M, 200-acre sports complex under construction in
Orlando, according to the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. Olympic
officials have planned for the track to be removed from the park
after the Paralympics. Velodrome designer Dale Hughes: "They
are looking to expand the sport beyond American sports and bring
an international flavor. Florida in the winter time is the ideal
time to host cycling on a world level" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION,
8/14).
