     The Cowboys have signed RB Emmitt Smith to an eight-year,
$48M deal, including an NFL record $15M signing bonus (Mult.,
8/13)....Comcast Corp., owner of the 76ers and Flyers, reported a
jump in net income to $16.8M, or $.07 a share, compared with a
loss in last year's second quarter (WALL STREET JOURNAL,
8/13)....Referring to last season's "snowball incident" at Giants
Stadium, Giants President Wellington Mara informed season ticket
holders they "will be held fully responsible for the conduct of
those using their tickets," with seats "subject to revocation"
(USA TODAY, 8/13)....In L.A., Bill Plaschke urges Disney to make
Angels games "less Goofy," including getting rid of cheerleaders
and the eighth-inning Chicken Dance (L.A. TIMES, 8/11).... The CA
Medical Board has put Dr. Arthur Ting, the Sharks' team doctor,
on two years' probation for misdiagnosing a patient in his
private practice.  Sharks exec Greg Jamison said the decision has
no impact on his position with the team (San Jose BUSINESS
JOURNAL, 8/12 issue)....At recent NHL meetings, Nashville
officially applied for an expansion franchise, the only city to
do so (DETROIT NEWS, 8/13).
