JOHN ALLEN STAYS: REDS INTERIM CEO NAMED MANAGING EXEC

     NL President Leonard Coleman announced Friday that interim
Reds CEO John Allen was named Managing Executive of the team.  He
assumed the full-time managing executive role on Friday (National
League).  Reds Owner Marge Schott had recommended team GM Jim
Bowden for the post, but Coleman reportedly felt that would be
too much for Bowden to handle.  ESPN's Linda Cohn:  "The
babysitter now has full custody of Marge Schott's most-prized
possession.  And this has nothing to do with the dog"
("SportsCenter," ESPN, 8/9).
