IZZY IZZY OXEN-FREE!

     The disappearance of Izzy, the Atlanta Games' mascot,
continues to be a hot topic.  The ATLANTA CONSTITUTION rumors of
a snub from ACOG President Billy Payne:  "Witnesses say that a
few days ago, Payne refused to have his picture taken with Izzy
during a visit to the Olympic village -- although Payne's wife
and child did so" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 7/26)....Valorie
Skipper, a member of Izzy's staff, on his ban from Closing
Ceremonies:  "They said that Izzy's appearance wouldn't be
appropriate.  They said they wanted all the attention focused on
the athletes, and Izzy would take away from them" (DALLAS MORNING
NEWS, 7/25).... Richard Sandomir of the N.Y. TIMES, in search of
Izzy, was told to "Go to the nearby Merchandise Mart, seventh
floor ... and yes, there was a long line there.  Had Izzy
materialized?  No.  It was Bruce Jenner, signing autographs at a
memorabilia exhibit" (N.Y. TIMES, 7/26).
