David Hill was named President & COO of Fox Television. He
succeeds David Evans, who recently was named Exec VP at News
Corp. Hill will oversee all Fox TV units, including Fox TV
stations and the Fox network. He will remain as President of Fox
Sports (Fox TV). Hill has "been credited with building much" of
News Corp.'s "strength in sports broadcasting." In his two years
at Fox Sports, Hill helped "transform" the division with NHL, MLB
and NFL games, including innovations such as the FoxBox score and
clock counter and FoxTrax hockey puck. Before Fox, Hill launched
News Corp.'s Sky Sports in Britain (N.Y. POST, 7/25). The L.A.
TIMES' Sallie Hoffmeister notes Hill will "concentrate much of
his efforts on the Fox broadcasting network," and while
executives praised Hill for his marketing and programming
creativity, some "wondered whether he can cover so much ground"
in addition to the changes at Fox Sports. Hoffmeister notes Fox
is talking with Mark Rosenthal, MTV Sales head, to take over Fox
Sports Network, which includes fX and the regional networks (L.A.
TIMES, 7/25).
