MSG PREVENTED FROM BLACKING OUT YANKEES OVER CABLE DISPUTE

A New York judge has issued a temporary restraining order
that prevents MSG Network from blacking out Yankee games and
other programming to 70,000 cable subscribers in Brookhaven and
330,000 others in Westchester County and NJ. MSG said they have
been in negotiations with TCI over a new cable contract, but that
talks "have not been productive." The dispute centers on
subscriber rates involving cable operator Satellite Services,
Inc., a TCI subsidiary, and sources say it "could eventually
result in MSG moving from basic cable to a paid tier."
Cablevision subscribers would not be affected (Steve Zipay,
NEWSDAY, 7/23).
