LAY DOWN WITH THE LIONS -- BUT WHERE?

The Lions hope to decide on their future home within three
to four weeks, reports Tina Lam of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. The
team's options include continuing to play in the Pontiac
Silverdome, or moving to Detroit -- most likely to a site east of
Woodward and south of the Fisher Freeway. According to Lions VP
Bill Keenist, "every option is still available," including either
sharing a new downtown stadium with the Tigers or building
separate stadiums for each team and sharing parking facilities
(DETROIT FREE PRESS, 7/19).
If they decide to stay in Pontiac, the Lions may sell naming
rights to the Silverdome, write Kupelian & O'Hara of the DETROIT
NEWS. One company "not likely" to bid is Ford, whose Finance
Committee Chair is Bill Ford Jr., also the Lions Vice Chair.
Ford: "I'd have to give all the other car companies an equal or
better crack at it first. I could never do a sweetheart deal
with Ford" (DETROIT NEWS, 7/21).
