MEDIA NOTES

     Over the last three weeks, Fox's Saturday baseball coverage
has averaged a 3.3 rating, a 14% improvement over the first four
weeks which were a 2.9 rating.  For the season, Fox's MLB rating
is tied with CBS's '93 number of a 3.1 (Fox).....In Philadelphia,
Bill Fleischman notes the Flyers still don't have a cable outlet
for next season.  The team's contract with Prism has expired and
negotiations for a one-season deal are reportedly "acrimonious"
(PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 7/19).  The PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER's
Mike Bruton predicts the Flyers will return to Prism next season
while talks continue (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 7/19)....Celtics
radio broadcasts will return to WEEI, where they had been for
several years until shifting to WRKO last year.  Playoff games
next year will be on both stations (BOSTON GLOBE, 7/19)....Fox
News Chair Roger Ailes announced Fox's all-news channel will
launch October 7 at 6:00am with 17 hours of live programming per
day (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 7/19)....SI sent out a reprint of its
July 15 article on George Seifert to about 250,000 SI
subscribers, mostly in the mid-Atlantic region, due to a missing
page of the article.  SI shared the cost with the printer
involved (USA TODAY, 7/19).

Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown. SBJ’s Tom Friend also joins the show to share his insights into NBA viewership trends.
