O'NEAL SET TO DECIDE ON NEXT SEASON'S WHEREABOUTS

     While Shaquille O'Neal will hold a press conference today to
announce where he will play next season, the TAMPA TRIBUNE is
reporting a deal with the Lakers is likely.  Lakers Exec VP Jerry
West met with O'Neal's agent, Leonard Armato, late yesterday in
Atlanta and made an offer "believed to be worth" $122M over seven
years.  Sources say, despite a similar offer from the Magic,
O'Neal "has already decided to go with the Lakers."  O'Neal was
upset over a poll in the ORLANDO SENTINEL that asked fans whether
he deserved a contract of $115M.  91% of respondents said no,
while only 443 said yes (Mark Elliot, TAMPA TRIBUNE, 7/18).  In
Orlando, Brian Schmitz writes of the poll:  "This is a deal-
breaker?  Ridiculous" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 7/18).
