LEAGUE NOTES

     Texas Motor Speedway officials announced the $110M race
track will host its first Winston Cup even, the Texas 500, next
April 6.  The event could draw over 200,000 fans, making it the
largest one-day sports event in the state's history. The event is
expected to become one of the "stellar events" on the 31-race
Winston Cup series (FT. WORTH-STAR TELEGRAM, 7/12)...The United
System of Independent Soccer Leagues (USISL) is merging with the
A-League to form a "second division" to MLS.  The 24-team minor
league system will be called the A-League (Baltimore SUN,
7/12)....
