FRANCHISE NOTES

76ers/Flyers partner Ed Snider's role with the sports
entities is profiled in the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS. Snider owns
slightly more than 20% in the teams and CoreStates/Spectrum
arenas, and has a clause in his deal that allows him, after 18
months, to either sell his interest in the operation to majority
owner Comcast or allow Comcast to sell it. Snider does not
"anticipate invoking that option" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS,
7/11)....The Bullets PR campaign to keep free agent Juwan Howard
continued before team GM Wes Unseld met with Howard's agent David
Falk. A band played outside Falk's office, Bullets staffers had
signs asking motorists to "Honk if you love Juwan," and a plane
circled overhead with a banner reading "The Bullets Love Juwan."
Hoops, the team's mascot "took up a vigil" outside a restaurant,
"vowing not to leave until Howard is resigned" (WASHINGTON POST,
7/12)....New Spurs Chair Peter Holt said the team "just about
broke even" last year after a playoff boost. Earlier reports had
the team expecting "serious financial losses" (San Antonio
EXPRESS-NEWS, 7/12).
